Shepard Equipment Company was started by Arthur Shepard in 1926 at Mt. Moriah, Missouri. In 1929, the business moved to Ridgeway, Missouri. The exact date of when they began selling the Oliver line is unknown as their ads list different dates for length of time as Oliver dealers ranging from 1926-1930 over the years. But, for sure by 1930 they advertised as a dealer for Oliver tractors. As the business business grew, Arthur's two sons, Francis and Leslie, joined him in operating Shepard Equipment. The Oliver dealership sold additional product lines including Speed Queen washers, Philco Refrigerators, Remington chain saws and Grant batteries. In 1964, 1966, and 1968, the dealership was awarded the President's Honor Council plaque by the Oliver Corporation. In 1972, Shepard Equipment added the Minneapolis-Moline line and continued as things switched over to White Farm Equipment. Krause tillage equipment was also added to the implement business. Arthur passed away in 1981 and Francis and Leslie took over the business. After Francis passed away in 2005, Leslie continued the business for a year, but had health concerns which caused him to close down the dealership in 2006. A large multi-day auction was held to sell off the contents of the dealership. Leslie passed away in 2014.
